Commercial.

Standard Office, Peel Street, Gisborne, 20th Jan. Mr W. K. McLbaii reports that considerable activity has been exhibited in our Petroleum Companies’ shares during the past week. The price of Crosses having given way a little, brought in buyers, dealings having taken place in thousands of shares at prices everywhere between five and six shillings, with a quick nervous market. The preliminary report of Mr Stubbs having been made public, gives hardness to the market, and the news of the value of the paraffin mineral from the Southern Cross Company has reflected upon the neglected shares of the South Pacific Company, which have had some enquirers, business having been done at from 2s fid to 3s, for contributing sliaree.
