Commercial.
LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs. John Shaw & Sons, of 37 Mark Lane, London, E.C n report through their agent, Mr. Leonard W. Blake, of Christchurch, that the market during the fortnight ending No'vember 18, was in a very ina.tive condition, xxjnsequently there was but little of interest to report thereon. Red Clover was quiet 4 the high prices asked for English checked business. American was neglected, the only demand for it being on the continent. White Clover was dearer, especially for fine qualities, which, however, were very difficult to obtain. Recent sharp frosts had not, as was anticipated, materially increased supplies, ■which, coupled with some enquiries for fine aeeds, had tended to make holders firmer. Alsyke had been the medium of considerable business, and must also be noted dearer, fine qualities being scarce and readily sold. Trefoil was quiet but firm. Timothy was somewhat cheaper, and the same may be said of Canary and Hemp. Italian and Perennial Rye Grasses were rather neglected, but there were no alteration in values. The imports into the United Kingdom of Clover and Grass Seeds, during the month of October were 18,825 cwts., against 16,069 cwts for October, 1880.
