The East Coast Land Question.

The foliowins; is a copy of a circular now beini? forwarded to many of the settlers throughout the district. It relates, as will be observed, to the formation of an Association having for its object the bringing about of such legislation as will tend to remove from this district the long suffering it has borne in connection with the Native land question. The circular, a copv of which we understand has been forwarded to Allan McDonald, Esq., M.H.R., is signed by the Chairman of the Cook County Council, and Mis Worship the Mayor of Gisborne, and reads as follow :—-

Sir, —Your attendance is requested at a preliminary meeting to be held on Saturday, the 2Nt instant, at 2.30 p.m., at the Masonic Hotel, to consider the advisability of forming an Association for the purpose of urging upon the Government the necessity of introducing during the ensuing Session of Parliament, such legislation as will provide fur the subdivision of lands in this district, facilitate the adjustment of the disputed titles, and generally for such measures as will promote thy settlement and prosperity of the East Coast. The welfare of the district depends so largely upon the successful carrying out of the objects of the Association that your earnest co-operation is confidently expected.” We are authorized to state that as the movement con emplated is of a general character, and as as there may be many persons taking a deep interest in the object of the Association to whom circulars may not have been fowarded, their presence at the meeting on the appointed day will be gladly welcomed.
