THE LATEST IRISH MURDER.

Another agrarian murder was committed on November 3, at a place called Currigan, within two miles of Crongwell, in the county of Galway. The victim was a respectable young farmer named Peter Doherty, 28 years of age. It appears that about ten o’clock, when Doherty was about retiring to bed, a noise in the yard adjoining his bouse attracted his attention. On looking out of the door he observed a horse that he had previously locked up in the stable wandering about. He went out, and having secured the animal was returning to the house when a shot was fired at him. The bullet passed closely by him, but in an instant afterwards a second shot was fired, and the bullet entered his temple and passed through the brain, causing instantaneous death. •The assassins then visited the house of his cousin, John Doherty; but failing to arouse the inmates, fired several shots through the windows, one of the bullets grazing the face of Doherty's wife. Two men named Thomas Cunniffe and James Morrissy have been arrested on suspicion. About 18 months ago Cunniffe, one of the men in custody, surrendered a farm of Mr Walter M. Burke, of Curraghleah, because he considered the rent too high. Peter Doherty took the farm in the belief that Cunniffe gave it up because he was not able to pay the rent, and the matter was referred to the local branch of the Land League. Their decision was in favor of Cunniffe, but Doherty refused to be bound by it, and ever since he and his cousin have been boycotted in the district, and notices were posted cautioning the people against holding intercourse with them.
