Wairoa Races.
(By Telegraph.) These races were held on Thurday last, in Mr A. R. Duff’s paddock at Paeroa. There was a large attendance on the ground, a good many visitors being from Napier and Gisborne. The events were very well contested all through. Mr Jones, the rider of A. G., met with a nasty accident, his horse falling at the last hurdle, while winning easily. The following are the events, with the names of the winning horses ;— ' Handicap Hurdles of 50 sovs ; two miles. E. R. Bloomfield’s Lizard, 9st 71b Redmond 1 A.G. made the running for this event and would have won easily, but he fell at the last hurdle, seriously injuring Jones, his rider, A.G. aud Roebuck both claim second place. Hack Hurdle Race of 10 sovs ; one mile. M. Roe’s Slim Jim, lOst ...Thompson 1 Kerei, lOst 2 Four started for this race, which was won easily by the Gisborne horse. Maiden Plate of 25 sovs; one mile and a half. W. Tatham’s Roebuck 1 Jones’s A. G- 2 Bailey’s Luck’s All 3 County Stakes Handicap of 100 sovs; two miles. W. Tatbam’s Romeo, Sat 71b 1 Jones’s Prim, Bst 51b 2 Mayo’s Pioneer, 6st 111 b ... 3 This was the race of the day, and was won by a length; the favorite being nowhere. Hack Race of 10 sovs ; one mile. M. Roe’s Slim Jim, 9st 1 Nine horses faced the starter. It was a grand race, all going for the money, the Gisborne horse winning on the post by a nose. District Plate of 20 sovs; one mile and a half. Gethin’s Korniti Maori 1 Hassell’s Rattan 2 Five started for this. The win was a very popular one, and was greeted with loud cheers. Saudle Race, for hacks only ; one mile. Moses 1 Swindle ... ... . . 2 Won easily. A protest was entered against the winner. Five others came to the post, Consolation Stakes of 15 sovs; one mile. Russell’s Sydney. ... 1 Jones’s Prim ... ... ... 2 Bailey’s Flatcatcher and Mayo’s Pioneer also started.
