Mn. W. K. McLean reports:—The local share market has been jehr inactive dating the past week. Southern Cross Petroleum shares 'have had all the attention, as for many weeks reales have been made from 5s up to 6s After the news came in from the works, -> few days since, there was an inclination to 'Sell, which, however, was more than met by -buyers at reduced figures. No doubt the pro<traeted -information from Melbourne about paraffin experiments, and the loss of the third -bore, must influence the market, and probably »to an undue extent.' Pacifies have been enquired for at-about 2s. 6d., all call paid, but "the demand is very languid, and will probably continue so matfl operations are resumed -in two or three months time. There are no iransaction^as-yet, as sellers do not recede.
