CHARGE AGAINST A BANK MANAGER.

F. Williams, 40 years of age, described as a bank manager, has been charged before Sir Thomas White with stealing two New Zealand 4| per cent, bonds for £lOO each, belonging to the London and County Bank, in whose service he had been. Mr Bosanquet, solicitor to the London Bankers’ Protection Association, conducted the prosecution, and stated that the prisoner was formerly the chief clerk at Islington branch of the London and County Bank, where Messrs Upward and Son, of Damestreet, Islington, kept an account. That firm deposited with the bank their two New Zealand bonds for £lOO each for safe custody. The interest became due on February 1 and August 2 on each year, and the amount was placed to their account from time to time. Recently they noticed that the interest had not been credited to them and on making inquiries the bonds were not to be found. It was the ascertained that the prisoner had sold them and appropriated the proceeds. During the progress of the case it was elicited that the larceny occurred at Islington, which is not within the jurisdiction of the Court. Sir Thomas White discharged the prisoner, and he was immediately arrested and conveyed to the Clerkenwell Police Court.
