French paper thus traces the sensation of a reader of advertisements: — The first advertisement—he doesn’t see it ; the second insertion—he sees it but don’t read it; the third insertion —he reads ; the fourth insertion—he looks at the price ; the fifth insertion —he speaks to his wife ; the sixth ininsertion—he is willing to buy; the seventh insertion —he purchases. It is rumoured that Earl Spencer, Lord President of the Council, will replace Lord Cowper as Lord-Lieu-tenantof Ireland, and that Lord Derby will replace Earl Spencer in the Cabinet. Ex-Mayor Gray has retired from the Dublin Town Council. Cells are being prepared in Armagh gaol for Parnell and forty others. Parnell’s jailer at Kilmainhan was suspended directly after the publication of the prisoner’s letter, deprecating the formation of a Tenants’ Defence Association for evading the Government’s Anti-Laud League proclamation. Sexton,.one of the imprisoned Leaguers, is reported dying. Parnell is not allowed to see his solicitor, and the latter has protested.
