The Natives on the Waimate Plains have raised a new cry, like the East Coast Natives did, from which they derived the names of Hauhaus. The new cry is “ Pohua and when asked what it means, they reply, “ See Bryce —he tell you.” Those versed in Maori lingo state that the only meaning they can make out ef the words is “ a night storm.”
