We have to apologise to our readers for the state in which our last Saturday’s leader ivas allowed to go forth to the public. When we say that the proof sheet was not corrected, not, indeed, even read, it will lead to an explanation of the presence of the many errors, typographical and others, with which it bristles. But explanatory as our remarks may be, and satisfactoay as they, probably, are, the offence, from an editorial point of view', is unpardonable, and no explanation or apology can suffice to remove the intense annoyance the unavoidable oversight has occasioned, not only to the w'riter, but to all concerned.

It is unnecessary to correct the merely grammatical errors, as their presence does not destroy the sense or meaning, but the following, alterations in italics, are absolutely necessary to an intelligible understanding of the meaning of the sentences in which they occur : — “ Large sums of money had been “ washed,” should read “ have been wasted” “ And this decision has been “ endowed by the Court of Appeal,” should read “ endorsed by the Court “of Appeal.” “To a mind storey, “ as Mr Locke’s must necessarily be “ with Native bore,” should read “ stored with Native lore.”
