Mr. Locke at Wairoa.
BY TELEGRAPH. [from a correspondent]. Wairoa, December 7. Mb. Locke’s meeting on Friday night last was well attended. He made a very poor speech, stumbling and harking back on his words every five minutes. He went over the old ground in his usual spiritless style. He denied having any connection with the Land Company, beyond taking ten shares. He denied also going to the House to the beck of Ormond, and said “ He would always be found on the opposite side of the House to Ormond,” instancing the property tax question as one reason. The meeting was intensely rowdy, and none of the opposition could say a word. A vote of confidence was carried with the help of a packed meeting. Many here fear Mr. Locke is but Ormond s shadow in the background. In Napier he is generally credited as a staunch Ormondite.
