East Coast Election.
NOMINATION or CANDIDATES.
The nomination of candidates for the East Coast Electorate took place at the Government Buildings, at noon yesterday. There was a moderately fair (attendance of electors present, considering the most unreasonable day—a public holiday—on which the nomination took place. Mr. Johnston, the Collector of Customs, read the proclamation, and, after stating his readiness to receive nominations, the following gentlemen were proposed :— Mr. Allan McDonald, Proposed by Mr. W. C. Walsh ; seconded by Mr. J. Somervell. Mr. 8. Locke, Proposed by Mr. A. Graham ; seconded by Dr. Percy. Mb. M. J. Gannon, Proposed by Mr. Owen Gallagher ; seconded by Mr. W. Daly. Captain T. W. Porter, Proposed by Mr. E. K. Brown ; seconded by Mr. J. Townley. Mr. Ledger proposed Mr. G. H. Wilson, but the Dominant was not supported by a seconder. The Returning Officer then called for a show of hands for each candieate, resulting as follows : For Mr McDonald, 47; for Mr. Locke, 16 ; for Mr. Gannon, 4 ; and for Captain , Por^ r ’ xir r \£ T Graham > seconded by Mr. W. K. McLean, demanded a poll on account of Mr. Locke which, as is already announced, will tako pkee on Friday, the 9th of December. Mr. McDonald briefly returned thanks and, after a round of cheers, M h '"V2 O6t ?: d€fa,i S able Air. Ratcliffe, (who said, ‘'We'll run, him in ”) the meeting dispersed.
