The Southern Cross Petroleum Company has made a ninth call of one penny per share due on the 14th December proximo Captain Preece, t.he newly appointed Resident Magistrate to take the place of Mr. Price on the Gisborne Bench, arrived by steamer yesterday. Captain Preece will take his seat this morning at 10 o’clock. Mr. S. Locke will address the electors in the school-room, Patutalii, this evening. Mr. Locke proceeds to Wairoa and will meet the electors there, and at Ri-asertown on Friday and Saturday, returning to Gisborne about Monday next. Mr. Locke fears that he shall not be able to visit Tologa Bay before the nomination, but will, probably, do so before the election. Mr. Alfred Buckland announces that he will sell on account of the Auckland Agricultural Company at Penrose, on the 25th January next a valuable assortment of pedigree, purebred stock consisting of sheep—rams and ewes —and Hereford cows and heifers, from the . celebrated flocks and herds of Messrs Mac-Lean & Co. Full particulars will be found in accompanying adverstment. Musical people, real lovers of the artistic and beautiful in instrumentaVsm, will be glad to learn that Mr. Walter Hydes has determined on casting his lot in Gisborne, being enchanted with the place, and having received so many proofs of kindness. Mr. Hyde’s announcement will be found in to-day’s issue, and we feel assured that this gentleman’s accomplishments on the piano, of which he is a perfect master, will receive the encouragement. and support they merit.
