TiverRon in the House of Commons, took place tof day, and resulted in the return of Viscount Slungton, eldest sun of Earl Fortescue. Paris, Nov. 15. Ereyeinet, and M. Leon, who had accepted office as Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance respectively having retired. M. Gambetta will take the foreign portfolio, and M. Jaige is appointed Minister of Finance. The other portfolios will be filled as follows : —General Camperou. Minister of War ; Mr. Rosseau, Minister of Commerce, and M. Bert, Minister of Public Instruction. The latter appointment is unpopular. The other Ministers are new to political life. Sydney, November 17. Tiie Hon. F. G. Parley, Member of the Legislative Council, owing to the retirement of Sir John Robertson, enters the Cabinet without Portfolio. The Portfolio of Education is still open. There are five candidates for a seat in the Assembly for Carcoar, rendered vacant by the expulsion of E. A. Baker. Outbreaks of small pox are now sensibly decreasing. .Washington, Nov. 15. The trial of Guiteau for tlie murder of President Garfield has commenced. The prisoner’s behaviour is most eccentric, and it is believed he is feigning insanity.
