Lydia Howarde Troupe.
TiiELydiaHowarde Troupe performed to a very fair house last night, considering that they only arrived by the Oreti yesterday afternoon, and owing to many disappointments, had to play at a short notice. The Burlesque “ 11 Trovatore ” was put on the stage as only this company can do it, and the Operetta, “ The Waterman ” brought a most successful performance to a close. Besides Miss Lydia Howarde —who, by the way, seems to lose none of her attractiveness —the company comprises the ever popular Miss Jennie Nye, and the extremely vivacious Miss De Glorian, who played with this company in the “ Pinafore,” on their last visit to Gisborne. Mr. Watty Hydes is Musical Director of the Company, and under his presidency everything went off very smoothly. The Burlesque of “ Aladdin, or the Wonderful Scamp,” will be presented this evening, and on Monday evening the ever popular “ Chilperic ” will form the bill of fare, with other specialities. As the troupe go to Auckland by the next boat, those who wish to see a really capital performance should not lose the present opportunity.
