ORMOND ENTERTAINMENT.

The residents at Ormond may be congratulated on the success of the entertainment they projected on Monday night last, for the delectation of the public, in aid of the Gisborne Hospital funds. A full house greeted the rise of the curtain, which was remarkably punctual. It would be invidious to individualise the performers, inasmuch as all were working con amore, and with a zest which, of itself, was proof that the hearts of the performers were in their work.

Madame Stewart delighted her listeners as is her wont, and was ably supported by her daughter, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. and Miss Higgins, and Messrs Berry, Ratcliffe, Scott, Vandy, Sceats, and Robinson. The musical portion of the programme gave evident satisfaction to the audience, whose rapturous plaudits testified to the delight imparted. The concluding portion of the performance consisted of the screaming farce called “Put up your thumb,” which introduced the male portion of the performers above mentioned. After the performance, dancing was kept up till about 1 o’clock, when the company separated highly delighted. We learn that a gross sum of £l3 17s was received and as the expenses will not be heavy, the promoters, Madame Stewart, and her brother, Mr. Sceats, may be congratulated on the success of their endeavors to promote so worthy an object. • Mr. Higgins, and Mr. Austin presided over the music during the evening, and contribute largely to the enjoyment of the audience.
