The illness of Mr. Price, we regret to say, continues so as to prostrate him, and confine him to his bed. We do not wish to say a word in regard to his official position, likely to cause him pain, or uneasiness of mind, but it is apparent that steps should be taken to temporarily make provision for the discharge of his magisterial duties. Some weeks have’ elapsed since any important business has been done in the Resident Magistrate’s Court, except on the occasion of Mr. Kenny presiding while on the District Court Circuit; and it may be more weeks (although we sincerely trust not) before our worthy R.M. is able to take his accustomed seat on the Bench. In the meantime, important business is accumulating, which the Justices of

the Peace have no jurisdiction over, and the delay, and repeated adjournments cause serious and irksome expense to litigants. On Tuesday last two civil civil cases had to be adjourned for a fortnight, and another for a week, owing to the cause above stated. In the public interest, we think it would be advisable for the resident Justices, assisted by Mr. Greenwood and Mr. Price’s medical adviser, to make representations to the Government on the matter, so that there shall be no further impediment to the transaction of the business of the Court.
