A cricket match, played here on Saturday between the Civil Service and the Herald Cricket Clubs, resulted in a victory for the Herald, Bluff, Nov. 7. Thq ship England’s Glory has just gone ashore behind Bluff Hill. It was a fine day, the ship stood close on shore to get a pilot aboard. She will become a total wreck. Dunedin, Nov. 7. Guthrie & Larnach’s tender for the supply of one million railway sleepers has been accepted by Government. Auckland, Nov. 7. Thomas, the man injured at Linabury’s fire, is not expected to recover. Linabury estimates the damage at £l5OO. Frank Burtt was thrown from his horse on Saturday, and severely injured. Concussion of the brain is feared. Wellington, Nov. 7. The following intercolonial weather exchange has been received : —“ Sydney, Saturday evening. There is a marked depression off King George’s Sound, with strong N.W. wind, high pressure area over South Australia, and moderate depression off the Queensland coast, with southerly winds ; in general, weather fine. Barometer at Albany registers 29’8 ; at Borda, 20*4 ; at Portland, 30*3; Hobart, 29*9; Gabo, 30; Sydney, 30.1 ; Brisbane, 29’9. Christchurch, Nov. 7. 250 entries have been received for the dog show. Madame Lottie Wihnott, on being refused the use of the Papanui Town Hall, assaulted the secretary with a supplejack. On Saturday night a meeting was held at Leeston to consider the advisability of bringing a candidate to oppose the Hon. John Hall. Mr. John Rennie, a local farmer, is spoken of as the candidate. There are 87 candidates for the University examination, commencing on Nov. 14 ; of these 68 are for the B.A. degree, two for the M.A., five for the L.L.D., and five for the L.D. Seventy names have already been received for matriculation examination next month. Mr. G. G. Stead, now in England, has purchased nine thoroughbred mares, and one yearling colt, and has shipped them for Lvttelton.
