[BY TELEGRAPH], Melbourne, Nov. 1. The Cup was. run to-day, the weather splendid, and the attendance large; visitors being here from all parts. The bookmakers made a pot, through the winner being a rank outsider. The following is the result: — Melbourne. Cup, 500sovs., 2 Miles. C. McDonnell’s b cZulu, sst 7.1 b ... 1 J. Morrison’s br h The Czar, 6st 91b 1 T. Ivory’s b h Sweetmeat, 9st. ... 3 Twenty-seven others started. The New Zealander made the pace very merry for £ of a fnile, Santa Claus and Zulu laying close on his quarter. Zulu then went ahead, and was never caught again, two lengths separating him from the second horse. Time: 3min. 32)secs. This is the fastest time the Cup has been run in, barring Darriwell’s, whose time was 3min. 30|secs. Zulu is a black colt, 3 years old, by Barbarian, out of Maiden Blush.
