Southern Gross Petroleum Company.
The Directors of the above Company held a very important meeting on Monday evening last, at which it was decided to send one of the Board to Melbourne, to represent the the Company there, and to take special charge of some of the mineral from the Company’s ground for testing purposes. This latter project, it appears, is to give practical effect to the crude stuff, and to ascertain its value in the market as a manufactured article. The Directors are prepared to give every facility towards the development of the varied products, on which Mr. Benies reported so favorably during tea. visit to Rotokautuku. Experientia docet is their motto, and we commend them for it. Mr. Clarke informs us that a committee of gentlemen will superintend the work in Melbourne—consisting of Sir Charles McMahon, Messrs. McLean, and other notables—and that nothing will be left undone in testing, in the most perfect manner, the real value and the most expeditious method of utilising the material at hand. . U gives us pleasure to state that, since Mr. denies’ visit to these parts, the very highest credentials have been received from the old country of that gentleman’s professional ability ; and that he is entering into the furtherance of the Company’s interests with great enthusiasm and expectation of success.
