THE THOROUGHBRED RACE-HORSE Bothwell WILL STAND at the BIG RIVER. THIS Grandly-bred horse is by Traitor, dam Myrtle, by Golden Grape (imp.) out of Moss Rose. Traitor by Traducer, out of Decept ion, by Young Plover, Vanity by SirCßarles, Giggler by Tomboy, Duchess of York by Waxy, Moses dam by Johanna, Gray Skin by Woodpecker, Herod. Golden Grape (imp.) by Barnton out of Hoppicker by Orlando out of Holbine by Sir Hercules. Barnton is a Brother to Voltigeur. Deception is a bay mare, bred in Auckland by Mr. Hargraves, where she was very successfully raced, which induced her owner to take her to the Nelson Meeting of 1860. Here she took all before her, beating 10, Ultima, Miss Rowe, and others, in everything she started for. She was taken to Australia, where she ran very well. She was then brought back, and put to the stud, where she produced Traitor. BOTHWELL was foaled 13th Oct., 1876, and is now 5 years old ; stands 15 hands 3 inches ; has wintered well, and grown into a grand horse. He is a beautiful bay, with great length, substance, and qualityj mid having the 'lhudttcwr-blood from his sire, ana the equally famous blood of Sir Hercules through his dam, should prove very successful at the stud.' Terms Single mares, 3 guineas, two or more mares as per agreement. One mouth’s grass free, after which 2s per week wiH be charged. All fees to be paid before removal of marcs.
Every care will be taken of mares, but no responsibility. Owners can make sure of plenty of grass and water for Mares sent to this horse. MERRYLEGS is a Bright Bay, stands 151 hands high, with strength, quality and action unsurpassed, with a good temper and constitution. His sire, Shales, imported from England by_W. D. Barnard, Esq., to Canterbury ; dam*, Duchess, imported from Tasmania by E. J. Wakefield, Esq. Shales was bred by John Thurton Thwaites, Esq., of Carleton, Fonhoe, Norfolk. His sire, Shales, the property of the late W. Wright, Esq., Fring. His dam, Beauty, bred by the Rev. Minis, by Channell’s Old Lord of the Manor ; Grand sire, Mr. Powel’s Black Shales, dam by Emilius ; great Grand sire, Chadd’s Shales bred by the late Captain Ogden; of Wai tington, from his noted trotting mare ; great grand, Old'Marshland Shales, the Champion of all Trotters in his day. MERRYLEGS Was matched at the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Shows in 1877 against Young Performer, imported by the Auckland Stud Company for which he took FIRST PRIZE, valued at £5O.
