The latter visited the Russian Imperial party on board the Czar’s yacht, in which His Majesty is now. cruising in the Baltic. M. De Giers, Russian Privy Councillor, and Prince Bismarck, also were present at the interview, which was marked throughout by great cordiality. In compliance with a request, Princenßismark promised to introduce at an early dateA Bill into the German Parliament, providing for a restoration of diplomatic relations between the Imperial Government and the Holy See. INTERNATIONAL SCULLING REGATTA. Toronto, Sept. 10. The International Sculling Regatta commenced to-day. In the preliminary heat Tricket, of Sydney, came in last. Further heats in International Regatta rowed to-day, resulted in Paris, Bonlay and Hamm taking first place in the contests; Tricket came in second. FIGHTING AT GALLIPOLI. . Paris, Sept. 12. Telegrams to hand from Tunis announce renewed fighting as having taken place between the French troops and Arabian Insurgents in the neighborhood of Gallipoli. The European inhabitants of the town are panic stricken, and have taken refuge on board the shipping in port; and the foreign consuls resident there have telegraphed to their respective Governments for assistance. Later. Intelligence from Tunis reports that the French troops recently despatched in consequence of the threatening attitude of the Arabs, have met with no opposition; the Arabs had retired before the arrival of the troops. GREAT LAND SLIP IN SWITZERLAND. London, Sept. 12. Telegrams received from Berne announce that a great land slip had occurred at Ulm, in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland ; nearly the whole town was buried, and over 200 persons killed. EARTHQUAKE IN PERSIA. Several severe shocks of earthquake have been experienced at Khoi, in the north of Persia, causing great destruction of property, and loss of life. DROUGHT IN NEW YORK. New York, Sept. 12. The drought which has existed some time throughout the States has broken up, heavy rains having fallen during the past 24 hours. PRESIDENT GARFIELD. Washington, Sept 12. Telegrams received to-day from Long Beach report that President Garfield has suffered a relapse, and his physicians say that one lung is affected, and his condition is most critical.
