OFFICES : 4, Nasmith’s Buildings, Gladstone Road. THE promoters of this undertaking are fully impressed with the idea that the time has arrived for the profitable establishment of a company to provide the Borough with Gas. They are fortified in their opinion by that of Mr. E. B. Parsons, of the Auckland Gas Co., Mr. J. R. George, of the Wellington Gas Co., and of other practical men. Some valuable statistics have also been obtained by personal canvass, which conclusively show that the proposed company’s business will commence with a demand to the extent of at least 10,000 cubic feet per diem ; which will be a dividend-paying quantity. The Directors have several sites under their consideration, the conditions of which aresuitable water frontages for shipping, with position for ready access to consumers. It is proposed to erect works suitable for manufacture of Gas from Coal, and to have also the small additional plant necessary for utilising the Gas developed in the manufacture of Anti-friction Grease and Paraffin from the mineral lately discovered in the South Pacific Petroleum Company’s ground, the late experiments having proved its suitability as a Gas-making material. The development of this industry from the latter material may therefore become one of great importance to the district, and should satisfactory arrangements be made with the Directors of the South Pacific Petroleum Company, th? Gas necessarily evolved from the manipulation of the Paraffin mineral can be saved to the benefit of the consumers and laboring population.
