We are indebted to Mr. Stephenson, the popular purser of the Oreti, for the following report:—The s.s. Oreti, Captain Alexander Campbell, left Queen-street wharf, Auckland on Wednesday, 17th Aug., at 6.30 p.m„ had a fine run to Cape Colville, which was passed the same night at 11.45. From thence encountered very strong head wind from S.S.E. with heavy confused sea. Cape Runaway was passed at 5 o’clock on Friday morning. * The sea and wind still ahead, and increasing with terrific violence, ran into Kawa Kawa for shelter. Weighed anchor and sailed for Gisborne at 9.40 on Saturday morning ; passed East Cape at 11.30 a.m., and arrived at Gisborne at 6.30 on Sunday morning. Discharged passengers and cargo, and sailed for Napier. Passed a fore-and-aft schooner off Mercury Islands, on Thursday rnoring, and a threemasted schooner off Lottin Point, also the schooner Orpheus on Friday morning. The schooner Minnie Hare loaded at Kawa Kawa, and sailed for Auckland at 5 p.m., on Friday. ’ The s.s. Oreti, Captain Alexander Campbell, left the Pier at Spit, Napier, for Gisborne, at 5.50 on Tuesday morning, discharged the pilot at 6.10; passed Portland Light-house at 12.15 o’clock, and arrived at Gisdorne at 4.30 p.m.
