A RICH HAUL AT WAITEKAURI.
The splendid yield of 2,105 ounces gold obtained from 180 tons from Butler and Goonan’s tribute, a section of the Waitekauri mine, has again directed attention to that district, and several pieces of abandoned ground have been taken up with a view to being systematically worked. The gold is of fine quality, and worth £3 an ounce. The lucky tributers will divide £4,000 between them after paying all expenses. . The crushing of 1,105 ounces melted gold, from a section of the Waitekauri claim, goes to Corbett (of the battery), John Goonan and Butler, and 15 per cent, to Messrs Brown and Beazard, of Auckland, the owners of the old Waitekauri company’s ground, of which this is a tribute section. The value of the yield is £6,315, which, for less than six months’ work for two men, is highly satisfactory.
