PORT OF POVERTY BAY. Arrivals—July. 30th. —Rosina, s.s., from the Coast. 31st.—Rotomahana, s.s., Captain Underwood, from Melbourne via southern ports, with 24 tons of cargo. Brown, Brassey, Dyson, Hutchinson (3), Hutchinson (2), and 4 in the steerage. Departubes —J uly. 31st.—Rotomahana, s.s., Capt. Underwood, for Auckland. Passengers : —Messrs. Peglar, Crosswell, McCullock, Haughley, Benjamin, McCrosky, and 6 Natives. Expected Aebivals. Minnie Hare, schooner, from Auckland via the coast. Vessels in Post. Waiwera, schooner • Elsinore, schooner ; Jessie, ketch. The schooner Fleetwing had to seek shelter under Young Niek’s Head last Sunday. The s.s. Kiwi is announced to leave this port for Napier and Wellington, on Saturday next.

The schooner Elsinore in attempting to enter the river on Saturday morning, grounded on the east side of the channel, but floated off the following tide. The s.s. Rosina while entering the Big River, on Sunday morning, grounded on a sand bank. She succeeded in getting off on Monday morning. The s.s Oreti arrived in the roadstead from Wellington, last Sunday, but owing to the heavy sea she could not communicate with the shore, and took shelter under Young Nick’s Head. Her cargo, will, probably, be shipped to-day. The report of the New Zealand Shipping Company, at Christchurch, to be presented n't the annual meeting on August 12th, shows a profit for the year of £40,956 6s lOd, out of which £25,000 will be appropriated to the reserve fund, bringing that fund up to £100,000; a dividend of 10 per cent, will absorb £12,556* and the balance £3400 6s lOd, will be carried forward. The insurance fund has at its credit £6426 17s 9d. A preliminary . enquiry into the circumstances of the wreck of the steamer Samson was held at Waitara. The evidence taken was to the effect that the Samson arrived at Waitara on Saturday evening, and without waiting for signals the captain took the steamer over the bar, and a short time after she grounded. A heavy current coming down the river drove her upon the wreck of the Paterson, and a hole was driven in her bottom, rendering her a total wreck. From Auckland we learn that the following notices of American shipping have been received by the mail: —Sailed from New York, the American barque Virginia, 750 tons, on June 16, for Dunedin and Wellington, with 2600 cases kerosene for Dunedin and 4620 cases for Wellington. The American barque C. A. Littlefield, 548 tons, sailed on June 18, for Lyttelton and Auckland, with 1780 cases of kerosene for Lyttelton and 500 cases for Auckland. From Boston the German barque Gustav Metzler, 352 tons, cleared on June 16, for Lyttelton with 200 cases of kerosene. Vessels loading at New York:—American barque Chattanoga, for Lyttelton, clears about July 15; American barque, Eyvorga, for Dunedin and Lyttelton, clears about June 16 ; American barque Beatrice Harriet, for Auckland and Wellington, clears about July 23 ; German barque Marie Berg, for Dunedin, clears about July 25. About 1000 cases of oil are being shipped per Beatrice Harriet to Wellington. . The Chattanoga is being loaded up with reapers and binders on the New Zealand Shipping Company’s account, and carries no outside freight. Freight to New Zealand ports 27J cents per cubic foot mean measurement.
