(from our own correspondents).’ Auckland, August 1. The Coromandel Steamship Company has declared a dividend of 20 per cent. The petition in favor of the abolition of County Councils has now obtained the signatures of the representatives of 51 Boards. The Hon. James Williamson has offered the Surrey Hill estate to the City Council for £lOO,OOO, payable in debentures, with the proviso that the entire estate be reserved as a public estate. At the meeting of the Auckland Gas Company a dividend of 7s 6d per share was declared. Several of the shareholders spoke in favor of a further reduction of gas from 8s 4d per thousand. The s.s. Stormbird arrived from Wanganui last evening, but no clue has yet been obtained as to the parties who stole the £4OO worth of old silver from the vessel when at Wanganui, on Sunday night. At the time of the robbery the Mate, Engineer and Steward were at church. A great meeting was held last evening to express sympathy with the Irish Land League Sir George Grey and Bishop Redwood were the principal speakers. The last resolution agreed upon was |affirming the necessity of forming a Land League in Wellington, to prevent the lands of this Colony from falling into the hands of a few holders.
