The Home News says communication between the mother country and Australia is being rapidly shortened as regards time by the Orient line. This Company’s steamer Orient and the mail steamer Cathay left Adelaide together, and the letters by the former were delivered in London, when those by the mail had only arrived at Alexandria, thus enabling replies to the letters brought by the Orient to reach Australia a fortnight earlier than those brought by the mail boat. The Winconsin steamer of the Orient line (the Cotopaxi) delivered her letters in London four days before the mail, although she left Adelaide one day later.
