Ladies Express.

LOST LOVE. Ah me I is gone the joyful blissful hour— The tender meeting in the twilight’s gloom, When our young hearts would lovingly commune, As hand in hand we wandered through the tower, Or skipp’d the forest to the shaded bower. The while our mingled voices humm’d sweet songs, Breathing the chivalry of old romance, Or else partaking of some merry dance, We formed bright music with our joyous tongues. Then gaily, happily each evening sped, And darksome pain and anguish were unknown ; Our souls were light, our wishes all were fed, And, joy of joys! our double hearts were one Till death unkindly came, and left me all . A .. J alone.Keen was the pang, bnt grief is calmer now, And sorrow fills my soul with gentle thought, And thus our deepest sufferings are fraught With deepest good ; and from affliction’s blow, Stinging and keen, with brightest wisdom flow. Therefore I grieve not now that she is gone, Nor would I wish to have her back again— She was too sweet for such a world of pain, And it was fitting she was taken home. Yet memory clingeth fondly to her form, Which in the recess of my heart is laid, And brightest, sweetest recollections storm, Of happiness endured, of raptures fled, And joyous meetings in the moonlit glade.
