Immigration from Europe into America is assuming larger proportions than ever. Lately no less than 2451 persons landed in New York. The construction of the Panama Canal has not been making much progress lately, owing to the outbreak of fever and quarrels with the laborers, which have considerably impeded operations. The Rag of Pl entg Times says :—A man is likely to visit Tauranga next week fertile purpose of canvassing the inhabitants for capital to start a new steam service between that port and Auckland. It is reported that a sum of £2OOO has already been promised.
