THE CROWN LANDS OF THE COLONY.

A return has been laid before the House of Representatives showing the area of Crowm lands contained in the counties of Tauranga, Whakatane and Cook, what proportions of such area have been purchased under the Native Lands Purchase Acts ; and what area of the said lands has been sold by Government, or by the Auckland Waste Lands Board, since Ist January, 1872. The area in Tauranga County is 98,136 acres; proportion purchased under the Native Lands Purchase Act, 27,093 acres. Sold by the Auckland Waste Lands Board since the date mentioned, 44,870. In Whakatane, 384,150 acres, 168,620 acres, and 11,112 acres respectively. In Cook County, in the same order, the figures are — 287,614 acres, 257,422 acres, and 13,019 acres.
