New Zealand is slowly but surely getting on towards polygamy. Christchurch contains 600 more-men than women, Avon 200, Lyttelton 380, Sydenham 130, Heathcote 600, and Akaroa district 400. A private letter received by a Wellington merchant from his London correspondent says: —“ New Zealand is in the ascendant again. Even the Four Per Cent. Loan is on the rise, and I really think you may rely upon New Zeeland oats keeping in favor in our market. They appear to be very much appreciated.” An exchange tells of a young lady who, six months after a happy marriage, on being asked if she was much troubled with cold feet, simpered hesitatingly and with ingenuous simplicity : “ Ye-yes; but—but they’re not my own.”
