LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs. John Shaw & Sons of 37 Mark Lane, London, report through their agent, Mr. Leonard W. Blake, of Christchurch, that the market, for the fortnight ending May 19th, was quiet, the consumptive demand for farm seeds, naturally drawing to a close, and there was also an absence of any speculative enquiry. As regards American red, lower quotations were reported from Liverpool. Fine white and alsyke being exceedingly scarce, were firmly held. Timothy was dearer. Trefoils neglected. Rye grases unchanged. More enquiry for mustard and rape seed. Canary seed was meeting with increased attention, the very low figures having at length caused a speculative demand. Hemp seed still unusually cheap. Scotch turnip seeds had advanced 5s per bushel. The Board of T ade Reporter, just published, states that the i nports into the United Kingdom of clovers and grass seeds during April, were 38,147 ewts., value £87,284.
