Probably this new fashion is due to Mrs. Cetewayo, who visited England lately. News has been received of the death of the wife of Mr. Meintrzgliagen, an old Hawke’s Bay sheep farmer. She died shortly after her arrival in England, whither the whole family took up their residence. The following is related of Sir William Fox :■ —“ Sir "William Fox, speaking on ‘ Accommodation Licenses,’ complained that he was unable ever to find a clean woman at an accommodation house. Speaking of the closing of hotels on polling day he said he was in an hotel at San Francisco one polling day. The bar would accommodate 500 people and yet he and the barman were the onlv ones in that bar at the time. A member hinted that he meant harmaid.”
