South Pacific Petroleum Company.
ChEertno news has been received from the works of this Company, the tubes of the present bore are going down satisfactorily, and at 160 feet depth a nice vein of flfl wgs tapped, the pressure of gas belbw forcing, the petroleum upwards more than one hundred feet ; tho.bore is now down two hundred feet, and the flow of oil is&trpnger and deeper in color' the further the pipes are driven, .it is therefore reasonable to suppose that 'ijlie oil bearing stratum is not £tfrpff,.- The oil js of remarkably good quality,.very limpid, red by direct, and green by reflected light. The boring was stopped temporarily on Wednesday last to allow for repairs to the templer screw, which connects between the rope and walking-beam, the necessary repairs were effected and Mr. 'Wright returned to the works bn Thursday, and boring would be resumed yesterday morning. Mr.j, Wight’s efforts so far have been well direfeted< and be deserves the success which we heartily hope may crown his efforts.
