Gisborne’s Notoriety.

' The Napier Evening “Penny Horrible” has gone very much out of its way to give offence to some scores of persons, at present sojourning in Napier, and who have been called there on public business. The paragraph to which we now draw attention is from its issue of the 17th instant. The delicate diction of which runs thus : — Complaints are being made of a very objectionable stench in the immediate vicinity of the Supreme Court House. Whether it arises from a defective drain, the storm water sewer, or some other cause, it is difficult to say ; but, seeing that the building is at present the resort of a number of visitors from such savoury districts as Gisborne, the matter flight at once to have the attention of the Inspector of Nuisances. Of course, as those to ■whom this malarious paragraph is addressed, are on the spot, they can resent the insult in a becoming manner; and if one of “ Our Boys ” is knocking about, Mr. Robert Price will find it a difficult task to “rub him out.” They do not require our defence; but we think it our duty, in the interests of journalism — of which the Napier “ Horrible” is a long-standing disgrace — and in the » name of this community, to protest against the fulsomeness of the Editor’s allusion. However, “ Diseased nature often times breaks forth “ In strange eruptions.”
