A fire occurred last night, at Cunningham an Coy’s building, at the corner of Manchester and Lichfieldstreets It commenced in the occupied part of the premises; the origin is unknown. Ths damage is about £lOOO, fully covered by insurances in the London, Liverpool, Globe, South British, and National offices. Auckland, March 30. New quartz has been found at Kaimai, about 21 miles from Tauranga. At a meeting of the Waste Lands Board, an application was received from David Dignan asking permission to assign his interest in a deferred payment selection at Poverty Bay, to Francis Saunders. Mr. Firth pointed out that the granting of this application would lead to abuses, and moved that the transfer be not allowed. The request was refused. An application from Piesse and Ratcliffe to have the classification of lands at Patutahi altered from rural to pastoral was refused.
