Messrs. Pitt and Bennet will sell at Toroa, on Monday, April 4th, 400 sheep of varied ages and sexes. The Rev. J. MeAra will conduct Divine Service in the schoolroom Ormond on Sabbath next, 3rd inst. at 11 a.m. A soiree in aid of Holy Trinity Church funds is announced to take place at Makaraka on Easter Monday. The Honorary members of the J Battery Corps and the Actives will fire their return match to-day. The former are confident and the latter equa'ly certain of maintaining the prestige secured by their victory in the last contest. We are informed that another knig’t of the hammer will shortly be added to the list in Gisborne. Mr. W. K. McLean, whose business connection is largely extending, has determined on taking out a license for the disposal by public auction of properties, live stock, &c., placed in his hands for public sale. Mr. McLean has had large experience in this line of business; and we wish him every success. One of the best of “ All Fool’s Day sells ” can be credited to Mr. T. J. Dickson. He bad in his bar a prettily trimmed and carefully covered box. Attached to the curtain was an announcement, “ Beware of the Ichneumon.” This peculiar animal, bird, or fis 1 ' was naturally a puzzle to those who visited the hostelry without having a dictionary at hand. Of course each and every visitor wanted to see this wonderful importation ; but, each and every inquisitive individual was sold, for on raising t’>e curtain, to obtain a view of this peculiar freak of nature, a placard was the only thing observable, and this bore the characters in anything but a strange device, “ Sold, April Ist.”
