Trust Commissioners Court.
[Before M. Price Esqr.] \ J. W. Johnson’s Bun. Mr. Rees asked the Trust Commis? si oner to enquire into the objections which had been made by several Natives to a certificate being given to the deed to Mr Johnson. He said that the objectors had been induced to take the step they had done through Mr Gannon. Some of them by threats one of them by receiving hal£-a-crown ; and others by drinks promised or supplied. Some of them did not know the contents of the paper they were induced to put their signatures to. Now they had discovered their mistake, and found out they had been deceived.. They were present and would withdraw their objections. Mr Rees explained the nature of the conveyance from Wi Pere and himself to Mr Johnson of a portion of Maraetaha, the hilly part of Te Kuri, and a part of Te Kopua. The deed had been assented to and signed by' the whole of the Maori Committee, and they thoroughly understood the nature of it. The objectors were then individually examined, and each one of them expressed his desire to withdraw the objection he had made, and signed a statement to that effect.
