Is Emmet Dead?
The Turf, Field, and Farm says that J. K. Emmet has been getting up the story of his madness and decease as a gratis advertising joke. The American “down-east” journals are all preparing to bill him at the rate of 10 dollars a par., and, as the editors usually collect accounts with the bill in one hand and a Derringer in the other, possibly “ Fritz ” will find in a year or so that he hasn’t made so much out of the “ spec.” after all. We have, in another paper than the one we quote from, observed a paragraph stating that Emmet is still alive and well. The mode of advertising, if advertising it be, is a novel one, but should he again appear upon the earth we could have no objection to inserting a “ birth notice ” at the usual charge.
