[Advertisement.] The Beer Question. “ A quarrel is, nine times out of ten, merely the fermentation of a misunderstanding.” BEFORE elosing for ever to the outer world my side of the dispute with Mr. Adair, I am compelled in justice to myself to clear up one or two false impressions that have arisen out of it. I crave a careful, impartial, and unprejudiced opinion from the people of this district, by whose patronage I hope to live, and whose esteem-and goodwill I shall always endeavour to cultivate. The first false impression I shall deal with is, I am told that I want to monopolise the beer business of Poverty Bay, and that I have secured hotels to draw my ale. The quarrel between myself and Mr. Adair having been published, I have secured hotels in selfdefence —not to compel those hotels to sell my ale, but to prevent those hotels falling into the hands of men.'who would, close, them against my ale. I have beep in the trade SEVEN YEARS IN GrISBORNE, during the whole of which time I have had houses bound to my ale ; every one of those -houses, and all the free houses in the Bay- have experimented with outside brews, and in not one single instance (except the four houses
