Our Ormond and Waerenga-a-hika readers will please notice that Divine Service will be conducted by Rev. J. Me Ara on Sabbath next at Ormond at 11 a.m. and Waerenga-a-hika at 2.30 p.m. The Southern Cross Petroleum Company is succeeding almost beyond the expectation of itsj promoters. The demand for shares is steadily on the increaae, both in Gisborne and Napier; and on Thursday Mr. Clarke received a telegram to say that 2,500 shares had been eagerly taken up in Melbourne. Tn the Native Land Court on Thursday, a decision was arrived at in re the Pouawa Block, to the effect that Mr. Rees is to submit a case to the Supreme Court on a point of law, as to whether it is competent ■for the Native Land Court to make an order, whereby the Trust Deed to Mr. Rees, Wi Pere, and Jfirini te Kani, empowering them to deal with the land, is to be recognized. It is a pity that these points of difficulty arise, but as the Native Land Court Judges could not see their way clearly without recourse, they have wisely sought the shelter of a superior <■*>!> rt.
