(from our own correspondents.) Auckland, Jany. 28. Swallow, the organist of St. Paul’s Church, has had his bankruptcy certificate suspended to admit of an inquiry. Mr. McCosh Clark has given his salary as Mayor, £250, to the founding of a free library. Quotations at the HaymarketFodder obtains its previous values, agricultural implements sold were at low prices, treble furrow ploughs, £Bdouble ploughs, £3 ; potatoe raiser, £5; combed plough and potatoe raiser, £10; grubber and other double furrows were withdrawn, £7 each being required for them. Bone dust, £5 17s 6d to £6 7s 6d the ton. Light and medium draught stock were in good demand, and brought from £l2 to £27 7s ; heavy draught from £2O to £44 each, with an unsatisfied enquiry. The sale of hides, skins and wool on Tuesday was less in quantity than usual, but prices were fully sustained.
At Remuera on Thursday, dairy cattle were in good inquiry, and brought from £8 to £9 each. Store cattle in usual numbers met with a good demand at improved rates. Fat cattle in less than average numbers, only 103 head being yarded, last week’s values were fully sustained. Good steers were steady throughout the sale at 22s fid per lOOlbs. Sheep were unusually plentiful, and some remained unsold. At first last week’s values were sustained, but prices fell fully 2s per head as the sale proceeded, and ranged from ijd to 2±d per lb. Fat lambs were in moderate supply, and maintained their value. Shorn lambs brought 8s ; in their wool, 9s to 13s 6d; wethers, 9s fid to 12s 9d each. Fat calves were in good enquiry. Pigs, although in limited numbers, were lower in price. Dunedin, January 28. Dehelia and Davidson’s flour mill at Otopopo, was burned this morning. The insurance on the stock was £BOO ; on the building, £3000; on the machinery, £1,500. Union Company, £5OO ; South British, £1,500 ; United, £500; Victoria. £5OO ; Standard, £5OO ; New Zealand, £BOO, National, £1,500.
Messrs. B.ourke and Smith will continue the auction sale of boots, shoes, and saddlery this forenoon, at 11.30 o’clock.
Mrs. W. Patterson announces elsewhere that she will impart instruction to pupils in Pianoforte playing. This lady’s talents as a musician are very highly spoken of. The Rotorua did not show at her anchorage until 9.30 last night, thus taking 32| hours on the passage, owing to the heavy easterly weather in the Bay of Plenty. We are, thereby, unable to give particulars of her voyage.
