“XXXX” Ijlg-nt Bottled. ALES, BREWED FROM THE CRYSTAL (?) WATERS OF THE LEITH. AYING heard statements by several late residents in Dunedin that the “ CRYSTAL WATERS OF THE LEITH ” were CONTAMINATED WITH DRAINAGE FROM TANNERIES, FELLMONGERIES, $ SEWAGE, I asked for, and received the following LETTER from MR. TURTON, Barrister and Solicitor, lately arrived here from Dunedin, which he kindly permits me to publish. W. F. CRAWFORD. Gisborne, 25th January, 1881. 'W. F. Crawford, Esq., Dear Sir, —The water of Leith (Dunedin), I know to be Impure and Impregnated with Filthy and Diseased Ingredients. I was for a long time the Secretary of the Acclimatisation Society, and during that period the Society liberated TROUT in this stream, and I well know the EVIL EFFECT which resulted—the FISH BECAME DISEASED through the IMPURITY OF THE WATER. THE WATER OF LEITH IS SO IMPURE that it is NOT FIT for Domestic purposes, and very many Dunedin friends who have seen “ THE FLOATINGS” of a morning will corroborate this statement. Yours very truly, GIBSON K. TURTON.
