MUNICIPALITY MEETING.
Pursuant to notice a meeting was held in the Court House Gisborne on Saturday evening last, to consider Ist. the advisability of merging the Poverty Bay Highway District into the County Cook, and 2nd.' That the town of Gisborne be erected into a Municipality. —Mr C. Ferris occupied the chair. There was not a largo attendance, and the business was soon got through. Nevertheless there seemed to be but one opinion as to the desirability of deciding the question affecting the town at once, leaving the country settlors to take their own time and means as to the rest of the Rofcl District. A few questions were asked, and ultimately Mr Dufanr proposed, and Mr vv ebb seconded “ That in the opinion, of this meeting, it is desirable that a petition be forwarded to. His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand praying that the town of Gisborne be constituted a Borough, the boundaries to be determined in accordance with the Municipal Corporations Act 1876, by a committee to be appointed by this meeting.” Carried. Captain Porter moved and Mr Dufaur seconded “ That Messrs W.W. Wilson, IV. F. Crawfard, Captain Chrisp, H. E. Webb, and C. D. Pitt, be a committee to draw up the petition and forward the same for the consideration of His Excellency the Governor. This was also carried nem. con. and the meeting separated after a vote of thanks to the chair.
