(from our own correspondent.) NAPIER. December 18. Cablegrams from London dated December 14th, state that at the first conference of the representatives .of the European powers, held at Constantinople, General Iguatief, the Russian Ambassador, was elected President. A conciliatory disposition was manifested on all sides ; and the proceedings were conducted with closed doors. The French Ministry has been remodelled .with Radical members. Monsieur Simon, Premier and Minister of Interior ; Martha, Minister of Justice. The oilier members of the Ministry remain as they are. A serious disagreement has arisen between President Mae Mahon, and the Representatives on the Left. Langham, for wife murder has been found guilty of manslaughter, and sentenced to 20 years’ penal servitude. A case of some interest was tried to-day in the Supreme Court, Colonial Bank v. Witty, to recover the amount of a promissory note for £2OO, which defendant had endorsed for a friend. The verdict was for the Bank, Witty to pay interest from the date of the writ. So much for personal obligation. (From Exchanges.) WELLINGTON. A Gazette notifies the resignation by Sir Donald McLean of his office of Native Minister, and of his seat in the Executive Council. Dr. Pollenis appointed Native Minister, retaining also the office of Colonial Secretary. SYDNEY. New South Wales won the cricket match by three runs, and two wickets to spare. NEWCASTLE. The English cricketers havefour wickets down for 34 runs at Newcastle. CHRISTCHURCH. Reports from the outlying districts show that serious damage has been done by the late rains to the crops, which are very heavy, also that every line of railway was more or less damaged. At the Selwyn Bridge an embankment 150 ft long was carried entirely away. At a meeting of the subscribers to the Rolleston Testimonial, it was stated that the subscriptions received amounted to £B2O. It was decided that the presentation should consist of plate to the value of £4OO, and the balance in cash.
