PORT OF POVERTY BAY. ARRIVALS. OCTOBER. 29 -Go-a-head, s.s., Captain M'Gillivray, from Auckland. Passengers —Mr Allan and two in the steerage. 30 -Nymph, schooner, Capt. Doughty, from Auckland. DEPARTURES. OCTOBER. 30—Go-a-head, s.s., Capt. M'Gillivray, for Napier. Passengers — Messrs Allan and Dempsey. The Go-a-head is advertised to leave for Auckland to-morrow. The Jane Douglas left Auckland for this port on Monday evening last at 5 o’clock. She will probably leave for Napier to-morrow. All claims against the steamer Pretty Jane must be rendered in duplicate to the local agent, Mr Adair, by to-morrow. The. charges against Mr Nancarrow, with regard to the Taranaki’s and Napier s old boilers have been investigated by Messrs Carruthers and Blackett, who entirely exonerate Mr Nancarrow from all blame. We wish to explain that the gross blundering in our last issue, in the shape of what we thought would be “ news to our readers, in reference to the Go-a-head. was no fault of ours ; w 7 e inserted it exactly as we received it from the agent here, who was equally annoyed as ourselves at finding himself so imperfectly advised from head quarters. Mr Adair was under the impression that the steamer was still at the Manakau, and had been telegraphed to that she would not leave, as we stated, until last Monday ; instead of that, she was then in Auckland, and had left again for Gisborne, more than an hour before we penned the paragraph to say she was lying at the Manakau. When we endeavor to give the latest and most reliable items of information, particularly with regard to shipping, it seems strange that the head office should be so much at fanlt.
