We (Wellington Argus) hear a rumor that a vote of £5,000 as a retiring gift to Mr Macandrew, will be proposed to the House by an Otago member. Despite all that h s lately taken place, we think Mr Macandrew does deserve some consideration of his past services, and of the position he holds in the eslimalion of the people of the province over which he has so long and o ably presided. [Surely this must l e meant for what Josh Billings would al sarkasm.— Ed. Standard.)
