Messrs Ferris and Pitt held a maiden sale at their auction room on Thursday last of sundry damaged goods ex Pretty Jane from Auckland. Melbourne.—The barque William Turner brings 380 tons of tea, and the William Mason 1,724 chests, 6,355 halfchests, and 6.010 quarter-chests. A portion of the William Turner’s teas realised Is 9d. In the tea race from China to London, the excitement which is usually observable amongst the merchants and brokers of Mincing Lane upon the new teas coming to hand, displayed itself again on July Ist, when the information reached town that the first of this season’s teas had arrived in the West India Docks, Messrs M‘Gregor, Son and Co. for the third time winning the race with their steamship Glenartney. The speed of this vessel has at times been unusually great, and she has made the passage from Woosung in 41j days.— British Trade Journal
