OCTOBER. 20—Southern Cross, s.s., Captain Holmes, for Napier. Passengers : Messrs G. Turnbull, and Cull. The time for the Jane Douglas’ steaming for Auckland has been altered from Monday to Tuesday next. She should arrive to-day from Napier. The Union Company lias received advice of the Wakatipu’s arrival - -dney after four -days run from Hokitika. The s.s. Arawa » with the Suez Mail arrived at the Bluff, on Wednesday last 5 days before contract time. She left Melbourne on the 12th instant. The cargo of the barque Robina Dunlop, which sailed for London on the 17th inst. from Auckland, included 9,524 ozs. 10 dwtS 7 grs of gold, valued at £39,526. The total value of the vessel's cargo was £61,139. Captain Chrisp, who returned to Gisborne by the Southern Cross yesterday, reports as favorably of the Pretty Jane as can be expected, under the circumstances. Active precautions are being made against, contingencies ; all hands are busy filling the steamer with casks. ' tanks, &c., and if the weather holds good, there seems to be no probable reason why she should not be floated in a few days ; until that occurs, it is impossible to say what is the extent of the injuries she has sustained. It is satisfactory to know that her hull is suffering nothing from her present position. Mr Gouk was a passenger also by lhe Cross, bringing with him men, and appliances from Auckland, so that a short time will determine the vessel’s fate.
